In 2006, the Government of Dubai established EIAST to prepare for the establishment of the space sector and advanced technology in the UAE. EIAST focused on knowledge transfer programmes, which prepared the first teams of Emirati experts and engineers specialising in advanced science, technology and space science and launched ambitious scientific projects in the UAE. EIAST launched DubaiSat-1 and Dubaisat-2, the first two UAE-owned satellites. It also started manufacturing the third satellite KhalifaSat, which is considered the UAE's most advanced satellite.
MBRSC was established in 2015 after the decree issued by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai. The establishment decree of MBRSC stipulated the merging of EIAST with MBRSC and outlined the responsibilities of MBRSC through several points, including supporting the UAE's technological projects and advanced scientific research as well as the country's effort in building a knowledge-based economy.
MBRSC has since developed strategies aimed at establishing an Emirati space sector based on solid foundations that contribute to the global efforts of space and planetary exploration missions.
